I would like to stress the importance of writing down your goals. I have begun doing this in my own life in the last two months or so. I’ve always had little goals here and there throughout life and some big goals too. However, I never really took the time to write them down and hold myself accountable to them. Goals that took months or years to accomplish could have been done much sooner if I had written them down plainly.
Writing Goals Down: Why You Should
Writing your goals down sends a subconscious signal to your brain that it’s a more important task because you have written it down. Your mind will tend to dwell on it longer and more frequently. In turn, we become the things we think about the most. So if you’re consistently striving to become more successful in your business, learn a foreign language, or a new technical skill like designing websites, you will find it much easier to accomplish those goals because you have mini goals written out to help you achieve them.
How to Make Goal Writing Easy
Make it easy for yourself by writing your goals down in numerous places. For instance, I use Evernote. Evernote syncs itself between my phone and my laptop. Chances are I’m near one or the other most times of the day. I can quickly and easily review my goals for the day and week. Even my big picture goals are stored on there (goals like travel to all 50 states of the US, buy a bright yellow Hummer H2, fun stuff like that!) I take it a step further and recently bought myself a large whiteboard that I also write my goals out on. The board hangs in my office where I see it every day. I use different colors to make certain goals stand out.
Another tactic that has worked well for me is to find a like-minded friend or mastermind group to whom you can share your goals openly with. My good friend and I have started doing once a week calls and followup emails listing our goals, the week’s successes and failures, and next week’s goals. This has helped my focus tremendously and pushes me onward because I know I have support. I have also begun sharing my goals publicly on my YouTube channel as well. This is an even greater way to increase accountability for them.
